On October 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, the workshop The House and the World will be held by Catarina Mourão.
In this workshop, participants will travel between the hybrid boundaries of documentary and fiction, in the construction of a cinematographic object that puts the space of home and memory in dialogue with the outside world. From the analysis of some excerpts from the author’s films, the participants will develop their own film. It will take place in person, in the Casa Comum of the Rectory of the University of Porto.
Catarina Mourão, director of “A Toca do Lobo”, exhibited at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam, researcher in the areas of memory, dream and archive, and founder of AporDOC (Association for the Portuguese Documentary), is a professor of the MA at FBAUL , Iade and Universidade Nova. She is also the founder, together with Catarina Alves Costa, of Laranja Azul, an independent film production company.
On October 5th, 12th and 19th, from 9pm to 10.30pm (BST UTC+1), the Festival will bring the workshop Feminism, Cinema and Pop Culture, with the Chilean journalist and programmer Antonella Estévez. Held online, the workshop will aim to review the historical representations of men and women in various cinematographic discourses and reflect on the main stereotypes and gender stories in cinema.
Antonella Estévez, in addition to being a journalist, is also the author and editor of several books. She was the creator and presenter of the television series “Historias del Cine Chileno”, which reviewed the history of the second part of the 20th century, from the perspective of prominent filmmakers. She co-founded and still directs FEMCINE – Chilean Women’s Film Festival, which, in March this year, celebrated its tenth edition.
To participate in the workshops, you will need to register on the festival website. Both workshops have a registration fee, with a discount for students in the area of Cinema from partner schools.
