1. WORKSHOP WITH CATARINA MOURÃO
THE HOUSE AND THE WORLD

October 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th from 10h30 to 12h30

Synopsis: In this brief workshop we will travel between the hybrid borders of documentary and fiction, in the construction of a cinematographic object that puts the space of home and memory in dialogue with the outside world. From the analysis of some excerpts from the author’s films, the participants will develop their own film, always from a microcosm.

CATARINA MOURÃO
Catarina Mourão studied Music, Law and Film (MA Bristol University; PhD University of Edinburgh). In 1998 she founded AporDOC, the Portuguese Documentary Association. Since 1998 she has been teaching Film and Documentary in many BA and MA courses. Alongside Catarina Alves Costa, she started Laranja Azul in 2000, an independent production company for creative documentary and visual arts in Lisbon, where she has directed many awarded films screened in different international festivals. In 2016 she obtained her PhD Diploma in Film by the University of Edinburgh. Her PhD film A Toca do Lobo (The Wolf’s Lair) was released theatrically all over Portugal and premiered at Rotterdam Int. Film Festival. She is currently teaching film at the MA of Arts and Multimedia at Lisbon’s Fine Art School (FBAUL), at Iade, and the MA of Post-Cinemas at Nova (FCSH, Lisbon). Her main areas of research are creative documentary; realism; memory, dream and archives.
2. WORKSHOP ONLINE WITH ANTONELLA ESTÉVEZ
FEMINISM, CINEMA AND POP CULTURE
October 5th, 12th and 19th from 21h00 to 22h30 (UTC +1)
Synopsis: The purpose of this workshop is to carry out a review of the historical representations of men and women in the hegemonic and alternative cinematographic discourses, from the perspective of current gender studies. The course aims to review the construction of the main stereotypes and stories regarding gender in cinematography and reflect on the effects of these imaginaries on our way of seeing and inhabiting the world, to recognize them and propose the creation of other more inclusive and feminist stories.

ANTONELLA ESTÉVEZ
Antonella Estévez Baeza is a journalist, Bachelor of Humanities, Magister in Art with a mention in Theory and History of Art from the University of Chile. Candidate for a PhD in Gender Studies at the University of Buenos Aires with a thesis on Sentimental Education and Women’s Cinema. Author of the books and editor of many books, she is currently preparing a book of interviews with relevant women in current Chilean cinema and an investigation on the presence of women in twentieth-century Chilean cinema. She was the creator and host of the television series “Historias del Cine Chileno” that reviewed the history of the second part of the 20th century from the perspective of prominent filmmakers. She is an academic at the Chilean and Development universities where she teaches the History of Film and Genre and Representation courses, as well as the research methodology workshop and thesis seminar. Since 2001 she has developed various programs on Radio Universidad de Chile, where she currently conducts the daily magazine of culture and society “Semáforo”, the cultural interview programs “Radiópolis” and “Cuestión de gustos” and is part of the panel of the literary space “La República de las Letras”. She is co-creator and general editor of the Encyclopedia of Chilean Cinema www.cinechile.cl, the main source of information on Chilean cinema; co-founder of the online pop culture radio RadioDeMente.cl and co-founder and director of the Chilean Women’s Film Festival, FEMCINE, which in March 2020 celebrated its tenth edition. She is a 1st Level Sommelier at the Escuela de Sommeliers de Chile.
