"Feminist Strategies of Counter-Programing in Cinema"
Lecturer: Anastasia Lukonikova
14 April: Online Theoretical Session
20 to 26 April: On-site Practical Work + Online Session & In Person Session
| Synopsis |
This workshop proposes looking at film programming not merely as a selection of films, but as a field of action where power, visibility, access, and forms of encounter are organized. From a feminist perspective, we will discuss how it is possible to intervene not only at the level of representation and parity — acknowledging their importance — but also at the level of the concrete conditions that structure the exhibition space.
What kind of world is rehearsed when we put these films in this order, in this room, with these people?
The workshop is aimed at people who do, or want to do, film programming in all its possible dimensions: festivals, film clubs, exhibitions, archives, independent spaces, or institutional contexts.
The activities are divided into two parts:
1. Online Theoretical Session:
This session will provide a space for reflection and experimentation to question what programming means, identify the structures that shape this practice, and collectively draft a manifesto for feminist counter-programming.
Date: 14 April
Time: 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Open to the General Public, upon Registration.
2. On-site Practical Work + Online Session & In Person Session:
There are limited places available for the practical session, which is intended for a small group of selected participants. Up to eight people will be selected based on their registration using this form, analysis of their letter of motivation, and a brief biography. During this period, the group will observe and analyse different aspects of the Porto Femme Festival, applying the tools discussed in the theoretical session.
