TRIBUTE TO ASSOCIAÇÃO CLUBE SAFO

13th April 2025 | 19h15 | Batalha Centro de Cinema

Founded in 1996, Clube Safo is a feminist lesbian* association – encompassing women, both cis and trans, and non-binary people who identify as lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, queer, and sapphic.

In addition to political activism and a strong presence at various demonstrations across the country (8M, April 25th, Pride Marches, among others), the Association offers community support services such as Psilesbos (Ema Fontes), and cultural activities like the Sarau Sáfico (Rebs Vital) or EmpAcTu – Playback Theatre Group (Beatriz Amaral). It also works to create spaces for sharing and socializing, such as the Clube Safo Camp, which takes place every August, along with other events organized throughout the year by the Coordination team.

With nearly 30 years of history, Clube Safo continues to be a space of lesbian* existence and resistance. Out of this determination came the documentary “Safo do início ao futuro” (Inês Dust) and the project Léstória – a lesbian and feminist archive (Raquel Afonso).

In addition, the Zona Livre magazine is approaching issue no. 75 (Paula Monteiro). The themes explored in the 2024 editions (Inês Rua, Inês Santos) were the 50th anniversary of the April 25th Revolution (issue no. 73) and memory, aging, activism, and lesbian* resistance (issue no. 74).

At clubesafo.pt, you can read the latest issues of Zona Livre and access the Mapa LES Friendly (Mahara Damasceno), which highlights spaces, businesses, services, and professionals who are lesbian* and/or welcoming to the lesbian* community throughout Portugal.

*lesbian* – inclusive of cis and trans women and non-binary people who identify as sapphic.
