Biography:

Born in 1994, Nino Defontaine studied social sciences before learning about image and directing in the Master Cinéma Ecal/Head. She was Director of cinematography of Metamorphosis, selected at Fipadoc and Tënk. She was co-director and DOP of Tony (2018). Tony (2018).

Synopsis:

A portrait of my grandmother, Monique, 81, who is trying to break out of the presences of her house, called Clémente. Sorting, she wonders: why do we keep? Monique’s and her mother’s recovered films build a memory transmitted over three generations that break with the family silence. Through these visions, a dialog opens on gender, family, and freedom.

Biography:

Karoliina Gröndahl is a documentary filmmaker from Helsinki, Finland. As a filmmaker Karoliina has a passion for understanding people and the diversity of human life. In most of the films Karoliina is her own cinematographer and she successfully transmits emotions through images. After graduating from the international DOC NOMADS Joint Masters programme in 2020 from the field of creative documentary, Karoliina continues her work with several documentary projects in development. Karoliina’s graduation short documentary Juror No.5, premiered at the 20th DocPoint Helsinki Documentary Film Festival in January 2021. In 2016 Karoliina directed her first feature-length tv-documentary Elinkautinen (English title: Sentenced For Life). Elinkautinen was produced by Finland’s national broadcasting company YLE and Karoliina received a script writing grant for the film from AVEK The Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture. The film was broadcasted in December 2016. Karoliina has a background as a board member of a film association Euphoria Borealis during the years 2014-2017. Euphoria Borealis is a Helsinki based registered association developing and diversifying the audiovisual culture in Finland. At the moment Karoliina is a board member of a Finnish Documentary Guild.

Synopsis:

Twelve members civil jury is used in serious criminal cases at the Court of Assize in Belgium. The short film Juror No.5 portrays an inner conflict of a man who is stuck in his vivid memories of a murder trial he participated in as a civil juror years ago. The story is gathered from real-life testimonies of former jurors.

Biography

I am Brazilian, born in São Paulo, graduated in Social Communication in Radio and TV at Universidade São Judas Tadeu and Master in Information Technology, Communication and Multimedia at Instituto Universitário da Maia. I worked as a cultural producer for ten years and was the coordinator of a Radio Workshop project for children for three years. Let me be myself is the result of the master's project completed in 2021.

Synopsis

Far away from my home country, I came across the stereotypes of Brazilian women. How to exist and find new ways of existence in a world of preconceptions? How to break a stereotype without losing myself? In Portugal, I discovered I am a tangle of things that exist within me and have little to do with my appearance. I thought it would be easy to introduce myself as I used to, but I realized that sometimes until I prove otherwise, there are already some preconceptions influencing how others perceive me.

Biography

Camille Briffod was born in 1993 in Vevey. After obtaining her bachelor's degree at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, she has been involved in various cultural, social and artistic fields for projects in Switzerland and abroad. In 2019, she began studies at the Zurich School of Art, where she studied the medium of documentary film and directed her first short film Œstral.

Synopsis

A sensory journey through the menstrual cycle. Ilana, Nora, Begum, Anja, and Una share with us their feelings and fascinations related to menstruation. Through a sensory exploration of this reality, both common and singular, the film plays with the boundaries of fiction and documentary.

Biography

Valeriya is a Ukrainian filmmaker based in Wellington. She gained her first experience in photography and journalism covering the ongoing war with Russia for Ukraine’s English language newspaper KyivPost. Later she acquired hands-on experience in filmmaking during her studies at New York University Abu Dhabi as she started directing her own short documentaries and assisting film producers in New York. Valeriya also served as a film tutor at NYU Abu Dhabi for courses with regional seminar trips, coordinating students and ensure their effective collaboration with local artists on short documentaries and animation projects. Her creative interest lies in the intersection of photography, writing and documentary based projects that reveal personal narratives and complicate official stories with fixed perspectives. Valeriya has directed short documentaries and video installations, and worked as a cinematographer on more than a dozen narrative and documentary shorts. In 2020, Valeriya completed her MFA in Film at Victoria University of Wellington. Currently, she serves as an editor on a feature documentary film on the history of a Cambodian family surviving the Khmer Rouge regime and an independent cinematographer.
