A conversation around the theme ‘Bodies,’ which is featured in this edition as the theme of the competition and the exhibition.
The documentary ‘Choices/Voices’ by Sara Marie Dutche and Melanie Sien Min Lyn will be the starting point for a conversation about one aspect of this topic: abortion and its intrinsic relationship with women's bodies.
This conversation features Patrícia Nogueira (director, professor at the University of Beira Interior); Patrícia Sequeira Brás (CICANT researcher) and Salomé Lopes Coelho (postdoctoral researcher at ICNOVA- FCSH), and will be moderated by Carla Cerqueira (Principal Investigator at FEMglocal Project, UL).

Carla Cerqueira
Carla Cerqueira has a degree in Social Communications, with a postgraduate degree in Communication Science - Information and Journalism, she has a Ph.D. in Science Communication - specialty in Communication Psychology and a postgraduate degree in Science Communication - Gender and Media Studies by the University of Minho. She is currently an assistant professor at the Lusophone University of Porto, an integrated researcher at CICANT - Center for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies, and collaborator at CECS - Center for Communication and Society Studies. Over the years of research, she has developed projects and initiatives in the area of gender, diversity, and media studies. It is also in this field that she has published in national and international books and magazines, oriented theses, organized the most diverse scientific events and participated as a trainer and consultant. She was vice coordinator of the Gender and Communication Section of the European Research Association in Education and Communication (ECREA). She takes part in several research projects and of the GAMAG (Global Alliance on Media and Gender) Europe Network, coordinating the Research & Policy team. She is also part of the direction of the APEM - Portuguese Association of Studies on Women. In addition, Carla participates in various scientific and non-governmental organizations in the areas of human rights, gender equality, and feminism. She is part of the RTP Opinion Council representing the NGOs of the IEC Advisory Council - Commission on Citizenship and Gender Equality.
Patrícia Nogueira
Patrícia Nogueira (Porto, 1980) is a director, university professor, and researcher. She produces and directs documentaries, working regularly with other directors, both in fiction and documentary. During 2015 she was in a residency at the National Film Board do Canadá and in 2016 she was a visiting scholar at the Film department of the University of Texas in Austin. Her documentaries have been selected for festivals both in Portugal and abroad. She has a Ph.D. in Digital Media from the international program at the University of Texas, Austin - Portugal, specializing in Audiovisual Creation and Interactive Media, and a Master in Photography and Documentary Film from ESMAE - Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo do Porto. Since 2013 she has taught several courses related to cinema and in particular documentary at the University of Coimbra, the University of Maia - ISMAI, and ESMAD (Polytechnic of Porto). As a member of Ao Norte, she works in the organization of MDOC - Melgaço International Documentary Festival and of the Viana Film Meetings. Since 2016 she is vice-president of the European group Cinema and Contemporary Visual Arts, at NECS - European Network for Cinema and Media Studies, where she organizes conferences, exhibitions, and film programs. She is a researcher at ICNOVA - iNOVA Media Lab.
Patrícia Sequeira Brás
She completed her PhD in 2015 in the department of Iberian and Latin American Studies

at Birkbeck, at the University of London; and taught at London universities (Birkbeck and
Queen Mary) and Exeter until 2021.
Her interest in the relationship between politics and cinema, which motivated her doctorate, continues
to guide her new research projects. Her first monograph The Political Gesture
in Pedro Costa’s Films will be published by Peter Lang in 2022.
Salomé Lopes Coelho
Post-doctoral researcher at ICNOVA - Instituto de Comunicação da Nova, with the project "Ritmanálise e Ecologias da Imagem em Movimento" (FCT scholarship). For her PhD in Artistic Studies and Master in Philosophy - Aesthetics (FCSH-NOVA), she investigated the relationship between cinema, rhythm and philosophy in the work of filmmakers such as Agnès Varda, Chantal Akerman and Raymonde Carrasco. She was a visiting researcher at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes, Buenos Aires, where she taught courses on rhythm, film and philosophy. She is co-editor of La Furia Umana - Revista de História e Teoria do Cinema.
