“Talks at the University”

Universidade Lusófona

From April 19th to 21st, after the screening of the films at Universidade Lusófona, the conversations are mandatory.

The “Conversations at the University”, held in partnership with the Lusophone University and the research project FEMglocal, intend to promote reflection on different themes such as feminist movements, trans people, oppression and violence against women,

The conversations will be moderated by Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues, Célia Taborda, Ana Sofia Pereira, Carla Cerqueira e Priscilla Domingos.

15h15 – “Erasing her”, moderation by Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues, with participation of the film’s producers Alicia Armstrong Larraín (Alexandra and Julian)

18h15 – “Movimento Feminista”, com moderação de Célia Taborda / “Feminist Movement” moderation by Célia Taborda

 

20th of April

15h15 – “Opressions”, moderation by Ana Sofia Pereira, with the participation of the director of the film Guerreras (Lotte van Raalte)

18h15 – “Bird Eye”, moderation by Carla Cerqueira, will count with the participation of the directors of the films Living Bodies (Andrea Arauz) and Ferro’s Bar (Aline Assis)

Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues

Vanessa Ribeiro-Rodrigues, PhD in Communication for Development, focusing on cinematic narratives, how to humanize stories through journalism and documentary filmmaking. She is a documentarian, independent journalist, university professor at Universidade Lusófona, educator in media literacy and journalism, and a researcher at CICANT, where she currently integrates the FEMglocal and YouNDigital projects. Her main areas of research are social documentary, activisms, narrative studies, journalism and human development and media literacy.

 

Célia Taborda

Célia Taborda Silva holds a PhD in Contemporary History at the University of Porto, Faculty of Arts and Humanities. She is Associate Professor at Lusófona University of Porto (ULP). Previously she was Assistant Professor at Catholic University of Porto. Currently she is a researcher at CICANT (The Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies) and researcher associate at CEAUP – Centre of African Studies of the University of Porto. Author of books, book chapters and several articles in national and international scientific journals, she participated in diverse international and national conferences (some as invited speaker) and integrated diverse scientific committees and events organisation.

 

Ana Sofia Pereira

Ana Sofia Pereira is a Post-Doctoral research fellow in the project “FEMglocal – Glocal feminist movements: interactions and contradictions” (PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021). In 2020 she completed a European PhD in Communication Sciences (majoring in Cinema, Screenwriting) at the New University of Lisbon, with a stay at the University of Reading, on the lack of women screenwriters and directors in Portugal. That same year, she was one of the winners of the Support Program for Writing and Developing Audiovisual and Multimedia Content promoted by ICA with the documentary miniseries “Virgínia”, based on one of the case studies from her doctoral thesis. In 2022, she won the same ICA Support Program once again, this time with a fictional television series on migrations and the genetics of return. She is a professor of higher education, an integrated researcher at CICANT, a screenwriter and a script doctor.

Carla Cerqueira

Carla Cerqueira, who holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of Minho (2012), is an Associate Professor at Lusófona University and an integrated researcher at CICANT – Center for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies. Her research areas include gender, feminisms, activism, intersectionality, media, and communication. She has published in national and international journals and books, participated in conferences and research and practice-based projects, both as a researcher and as a consultant. Currently she is involved in several research projects. She is the principal investigator of the projects FEMglocal – Global feminist movements: Interactions and Contradictions (PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021) and Network voices: Women’s Participation in development processes (COFAC/ILIND/CICANT/1/2021). She is the chair of the Research and Policy Committee of GAMAG – Global Alliance on Media and Gender and is a board member of APEM – Portuguese Association for Women’s Studies. She is part of the Opinion Council of RTP representing NGOs from the Advisory Council of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality. She is part of the execution team of the Diversity and Equality Plan of the Lusófona Education Group. She integrates several associations related to human rights, gender equality, and feminisms.

Priscilla Domingos

Priscilla Salvador Nonato Domingos is a PhD student in Communication and Activism at Lusófona University, and a PhD fellow in the project “FEMglocal – Glocal feminist movements: interactions and contradictions” (PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021). She completed her master’s degree in Clinical and Health Psychology at the University of Maia in 2022, having developed her dissertation on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of black immigrant women in Portugal, specifically in the North. She is part of Coletivo Afreketê, a group of women researchers who act independently in the discussion of political agendas with civil society and in the development of studies with gender, race, and class perspectives in the Portuguese context. She is a clinical psychologist and works under the perspective of psychoanalysis with different topics, especially those related to immigration, mental health of the black population and dynamics of abusive relationships, with women as the main audience.
