Helena Ignez is one of the main female figures of Brazilian cinema. She developed a new style of acting.

Nowadays, she directs independent films. The documentary tells some of the History of Brazilian cinema, its political context and Helena’s trajectory.

 

Biography

Sinai Sganzerla has been working with film production and film festivals for over 15 years. Her first film as director and screenwriter O Desmonte do Monte (2018) was awarded the Prize for Best Research in the Poster Archive – International Film Festival, 2018. Sinai Sganzerla was selected for the special session Directors in Focus of SANFIC – Santiago International Film Festival, edition 16, 2020, for the screening of the film The Woman With Her Own Light.

Juliana Chagas Gouveia is the director and screenwriter of the 26-minute medium-length documentary As Pastoras. The feature-length version, As Pastoras – Vozes Femininas do Samba, won an Honorable Mention at the International Houston Black Film Festival 2019 and Visões Periféricas 2019. Synopsis

The feature-length documentary Fakir portrays the success of fakirism in Brazil, Latin America, and France. This circus art show is presented and analyzed through archives that reveal the success of these presentations with their pain resistance championships and the large audience, including politicians and governors. Fakir spans current footage of contemporary artists who keep this art alive in performances and shows.

Helena Ignez, com mais de 60 anos de produção em diversos campos das artes cénicas e cinematográficas, estreou-se como atriz ao lado de Glauber Rocha, em Pátio (1959). Dirigiu filmes como Reinvenção da Rua, Canção de Baal, e Luz nas Trevas – A Volta do Bandido da Luz Vermelha. Fakir é o seu úlLmo longa- metragem.

The film follows the turbulent road trip of artists Aay and Zed, as they tour a new performance piece across America. They capture the daily joys and tensions of their friendship and collaboration through the lenses of their phones as they struggle to live up to their feminist empowerment mantras. Their delusional optimism soon fades as they are confronted with each other’s insecurities and must fight to stay connected.

 

Biography

Plural Authorship Collective (P_A_C) is the artist duo Aay Liparoto and Zed Morales, based between Brussels and Edinburgh. They use durational and immersive character performances in daily life to explore how physicality offers new insights and knowledge.

Laura Laplana, born in Málaga in 1996, graduated in Journalism and Film Studies from Carlos III University of Madrid. She created Godmothers: Vaginismus Stories after an exchange at California State University, Long Beach.

In addition, she has a Masters in communication (UFRJ), studied documentary film at the filmArche in Berlin, and currently devotes herself to the study of digital media in the bachelor programme Media Informatics at the Free University in Berlin.

An authoritarian regime plans to restore white supremacy in Brazil. Their first act is to demand the return of all white Brazilian citizens living abroad. In the midst of this political chaos, Tai needs to prove that she is not white, but is faced with uncertainty about her own racial identity. The film delves into the ambiguous concept of race in Brazil, exploring the traces left by its colonial past and the family history of the director. Biography

Ines Jokoš (1985, Osijek) has an MA in Journalism and Public Relations from the Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb. She is currently developing her next short documentary project Brane – a poetic intimist story dealing with the exclusion of blind people from audiovisual arts. She is a member of the Association for Communication and Media Culture, and holds lectures at the interdisciplinary film workshop for children and youth. Together with her colleagues, she has launched Croatian Short Films Revue ‘Filmska RUNDA’ in Osijek, Croatia.
