Biography:

Carina Rabaça is a graduate of the Soares dos Reis Art School, having completed her Audiovisual Communication Course in the Cinema and Video Specialty. She is the director of the short film AKATHISIA (2022), which was produced as her Proof of Artistic Aptitude.

Synopsis:

Marvin Gaye lived in Ostend for several months. Following his tragic assassination, his mother, Alberta, finds refuge in the small Belgian coastal city. The room where she stays will then become the theater of her journey towards resilience. Alberta’s Room is an experimental film on the border of documentary and fiction about mourning and violence.

Biography:

Victoire Karera Karera is a filmmaker, screenwriter, sound designer and co-founder of the nomadic collective .contrapunctum. with which she creates and promotes events that mix music and visual arts within different cultural spaces in Brussels. She has worked in the film industry within the Lisbon-based production company VIDEOLOTION.

Synopsis

Ob Scena is a documentary-experimental short film that revisits academic texts on sexuality written by a psychiatrist in Cuba in the 1980s and establishes a link with current pornography. A reflection on the place of social control discreetly infiltrated in the representation of sex.

Biography

Paloma Orlandini Castro lives in Buenos Aires, where she got a degree in Documentary Film from the National University of San Martín. At the same time, she was trained in Digital Restoration of film archive material (UNSAM-FNA Program) and works as an ad honorem teacher in the Chair of Ethics and Deontology at the IAMK - UNSAM.

Synopsis

This transcultural scientific art-project uses the mediums of dance, film and text to search for common ground within the European female experience and asks, "How does the female body relate to different models of authority and vice versa?". It intends to convey theory of body politics, while also relaying the experience of abortion in a personal and intimate way.

Biography

Laura Lintner was born in 1995 in Graz, Austria, and currently resides in Lisbon. As an artistic researcher, she engages with various objects, topics, and current or historical situations, using her own body, as well as those of others, as a research tool. For the past seven years, she has been exploring the subject of abortion through personal experience, writing, film analysis, dance, and performance.

Synopsis

A young woman, imprisoned in the dark dungeons of Assad's Saydnaya prison in Syria. After brutal tortures, her perception and the memories of her lover have become blurred and hazy. But slowly, an image of what has happened begins to take shape. The film is based on a true story.

Biography

Ragda Alazizi was born in Damascus. She worked as a freelance journalist in Syria. Ragda's Work deal with the theme violence, especially violence against women in Assad's prisons. The characters of her films protagonists are a counter image to the passive victim and the cliché of the suppressed Arab woman. She chooses the abstract and surreal way in the artistic and dramatic form of her work to express the brutality that women in Syrian prisons are subjected to.

Synopsis

The Fairies' Tree is a tree mentioned several times in Joan of Arc's trial. Imagining it multiplied in space and time, this film ritualizes this historical element, reappropriating it and turning it into a symbol of gender dissidents prosecuted by the Inquisition.

Tomás Paula Marques is a visual artist from Porto, Portugal, graduated in Directing and Cinematography from ESTC. In Paula Marques films characters face difficulties when questioning or breaking expectations of gender and sexuality.

A film about discovering a world that has been half-missed, where the director, herself deaf in one ear, seeks to uncover the sounds she has lost and those she still wants and can hear. Through Luisa, we journey through this sonic world.
