Teresa Madruga, a renowned Portuguese actress, has, in her vast curriculum, more than 100 works in Film and Television. Teresa Maria Madruga Carvalho was born in 1953 in the picturesque and cheerful Horta, capital of the island of Faial, in the Azores archipelago, and came to the mainland at the age of three months.
Her studies at the Higher Course of the Theater School were interrupted by the 25th of April, in 1974. Nevertheless, Teresa debuted, in 1976 , in the play Amantes Pueris by Fernand Crommenlynk, staged by Gastão Cruz at Teatro da Trindade. That same year, Teresa acted in the film Madrugada, by Luís Couto, and continued to perform in both arts.
On stage, she worked with directors such as Gastão Cruz, Ricardo Pais, Osório Mateus Carlos Fernando, Mário Feliciano, João Lourenço e Luis Miguel Cintra. Em 1988, recebeu o Prémio Garret,for her performance in Rei Bamba (Teatro da Cornucópia).
In front of the cameras she worked in several films, such as Francisca, by Manuel de Oliveira, Oxala, by António Pedro Vasconcelos, Dans La Ville Blanche, by Alain Tanner, Atlantida, by Daniel del Negro, D’Après Maria, by Jean Claude Robert, Dia do Desespero, by Manuel de Oliveira, Nostalgia, by Francisco Manso, Demain?, de Cristine Lourent, Tabu, by Miguel Gomes, Fátima, by João Canijo, Mil e Uma Noites – 2nd volume, by Miguel Gomes, Variações, by João Maia, Dia de Festa, by Sofia Bost e Campo de Sangue, by João Mário Grilo.
Among the various awards received, there is the Best Actress at the Festival du Court Metrage in Clermont–Ferrand, for her performance in D'Aprés Maria (a film also nominated for the British Academy Awards and the César Awards for French Cinema) and the Sete de Cinema award for the best female performance in the film Dans la Ville Blanche.
In 1995, she appeared alongside Marcello Mastroianni in the film Afirma Pereira, by Roberto Faenza. Also noteworthy is her work in soap operas and series such as A Jóia de África, João Semana, and Bocage.. Teresa also did dubbing and lent her voice and emotion to more than eighty cartoons. In addition, she participated as a Jury member in several Film Festivals, mainly outside Portugal.
Teresa will continue to move us with her characters, because, according to the actress, she doesn't think about stopping working.
