Synopsis

A child is lost from her mother and refuses to move from the same place. A policeman stops everyone else to make her move. The still girl and the policeman that guards her stop traffic and stir up the city’s hearts.

Biography

Born in May 1970, she graduated in Industrial Design, followed by a post-graduation in the same area at the Glasgow School of Art/Centro Português de Design. She studied Fine Art at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes in Lisbon and in 1992 interrupted her course to study Animation at Tobistoon. Since then, she has worked continuously in animation, both in cooperation with other studios and developing her own projects. In 2004, she set up her own production company, Gomtch Gomtch. She also works as an illustrator, set designer for theatre, and website designer, as well as organizing workshops for children.

Under a gloomy sun, two characters look for adaptation.

Biography

In 2010 completed the Painting degree in Fine Arts in Lisbon. Her first contact with animation cinema was in 2009 in the production company Sardinha em Lata. In 2013 moved to Porto to work in the animation studios of the production company Bando à Parte where she continued to develop technical and artistic work for other authors' films. Founding member of the BAP Cooperative where she currently develops individual and collective work. Água Mole (2017) is her first film, co-directed with Laura Gonçalves. ELO is her debut as a solo director.

Synopsis

Three young children, bored and neglected, live off the adventures they create in their own heads until a day comes when they try to reach the outside. The mother, always busy, seems completely emotionally detached from her surroundings. As the children grow and the mother’s routine is ever more tiresome, the secrets of the mysterious house become apparent.

Biography

Natália Azevedo Andrade was born in Braga, in 1992, and spent the first part of her life between Braga, Vila do Conde and Porto. Natália studied Plastic Arts, Painting, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto University, and Audiovisual Communication, Multimedia, at the Artistic School of Soares dos Reis; during this time she participated in several independent comic and illustration fanzines, as well as in some group exhibitions. During the last few years, she lived in Budapest, where she was able to deepen her theoretical and technical knowledge of animation at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. Her films were exhibited in festivals around the world, including the Animateka in Slovenia, the Seoul International Cartoon and Animated Film Festival in South Korea, and the Womanimation in the USA, as well as in the CINANIMA, the Monstra, the Caminhos do Cinema Português and the Curtas Vila do Conde, these last ones in Portugal. Nowadays, Natália lives in Porto, where she works as a freelancer in animation, writes and develops her next films.

 Synopsis

A woman is confined to her home. She is unemployed as if exiled from the opportunities of her time. She goes through cycles of precarity, ever faster, ever closer, encapsulating her like the ripple of a stone in a waterhole. Waves come to meet her, repeating themselves, besieging her. Days weighing heavily on the tired body, the dwelling of all struggles. Liberating memory: reaching into time, the future is possible. She dances. With every step, a note, at every turn, a new rhythm. She is unfolding, repossessing her being-in-the world. She will dress her body like a glove.

Biography

Catarina Romano has studied traditional and volumes animation cinema in the Imaging and Technical Narratives center of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, under the guidance of Zepe and Nuno Beato. She has participated in Gulbenkian's Creativity and Artistic Creation Program in the 3D animation Filmmaking Course directed by the Supinfocom school - and was subsequently selected to continue her studies in Valenciennes, where she participated in a short film in 3D. Professionally, she worked as an animator on several independent animation short films and animation series. Has directed two short films, The House or the machine to live in and Anyway, Anyhow, both supported by the ICA, the Portuguese Cinema, and Audiovisual Institute. Currently directs her third short film.
